Summary: The console framebuffer driver for VIA graphics

Fedora forbids out of tree kernel module. That the reason of this package submission here. Work have been done to merge this module into the kernel, but this task seems to have been dropped, there is not timeline for this merge.

The above module does not permit kernel mode setting with "via" hardware and Fedora 10. The module is unloaded by default,

Is this basically the same driver that was merged for 2.6.28? See for example:

http://git.kernel.org/git/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=09a525ec1cf5a142f2e73f15527c169dafc6ff52

Is it really worth to get this into RPM Fusion? 2.6.28 will be out in 4-7 weeks -- 2 to 3 weeks later it'll likely get into Fedora as regular update

Yes, this driver was merged in 2.6.28. I think the driver in 2.6.28 is even a bit better as it already contains additional bugfixes.

@xavier
I wasn't able to install Fedora easily because something discribed in this message (french):
http://forums.fedora-fr.org/viewtopic.php?pid=320464
This is the first message I've saw, which make me thik the bug is reproductible.
I cannot use openchrome with F-10 i686 on my Via KM890 chipset. (which is not at home).
Comment 4 Nicolas Chauvet 2009-01-20 21:16:43 CET
inkernel viafb works with 2.6.28.1-16.fc10.i686 and later...
