Description Jan "Yenya" Kasprzak 2011-11-10 10:46:23 CET
I have upgraded my laptop to Fedora 16, and mplayer started dying after several seconds with signal 11. I have discovered that the problem occurs when I enable
-ass subtitles rendering. Without -ass, subtitles look ugly, but at least mplayer does not crash. I have tested with several videos in various containers (mkv with internal ASS subtitles, avi with external .srt subtitles, etc.).
The problem is with and only with -ass switch enabled, and apparently mplayer crashes just before displaying the first subtitle. My mplayer version is

mplayer-1.0-0.126.20110816svn.fc16.x86_64

This is due to an upstream bug in libass. See here:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=753065

Please follow the instructions for updating libass.

If it resolves your issue, please vote on it here:

The issue is not a bug with mplayer, but a bug with libass. Upgrading to libass 0.10.0 resolves the issue.
