None of that seemed to help. Can you run akmods manually as root and post the output? Created attachment 815 [details]
boot.log, Xorg.0.log, startx, akmods
Output attached. Running akmods is ok, but "systemctl status akmods.service" indicates problem.
I also attach bootlog and startx result. There is also an issue iscsi failed to start on boot, not sure if these problems are related.
I tried to free up a partition in my computer (already running windows7 and Fedora16) to install Fedora alpha to test the problem, but it seems Fedora (dvd boot install) cannot detect the 20GB empty partition? The empty partition is located in between my Windows partition and my Fedora 16, because I can only shrink Windows.
Ok, I looked through the supported devices list and it looks like your chip should be supported. GeForce GT 540M 0x0DF4 It looks like the nvidia kernel module is installed but it doesn't find your video card. How about attaching an "lspci -v"? Created attachment 819 [details]
lspci -v
File "lspci -v" attached. It incorrectly display my graphic card name as Nvidia GT555M, mine is Nvidia GT540M.
Hmm... That may be the problem. The Manufacturer has done something quirky with the BIOS so it's not properly recognized. I'm not sure what we can do about that... Did the video work with nouveau? I know it's not ideal but working video is better than no video. Also, you might check for a BIOS update that may fix this. Created attachment 832 [details]
failed build for latest F16 kernel (3.3.0-4.fc16)
I'm seeing this in F16 stable with the latest stable kernel. Should I open a new bug?
(In reply to comment #6) > Created attachment 832 [details] > failed build for latest F16 kernel (3.3.0-4.fc16) known and separate issue , see #2239 (In reply to comment #4) > Created attachment 819 [details] > lspci -v > > File "lspci -v" attached. It incorrectly display my graphic card name as Nvidia > GT555M, mine is Nvidia GT540M. I just looked at it again and I looked up the internal designation (GF106) and it should be a GT540. Even so, I don't know why this would prevent the X driver from using the card since it seems to think there's no video card installed. Also, the following line is encouraging: Kernel driver in use: nvidia Have you been able to get anything to work? Keep in mind there's a problem with newer kernels Nicolas mentioned. bootlog
I've reverted to the original nouveau driver since akmod-nvidia didn't work for me. However, I notice akmods itself doesn't seem to work (pls see attached bootlog) even without akmod-nvidia installed.
systemctl status akmods.service
akmods.service - LSB: Builds and install new kmods from akmod packages
Loaded: loaded (/etc/rc.d/init.d/akmods)
Active: failed since Sat, 24 Mar 2012 17:35:17 +0800; 1h 11min ago

My akmods version: 0.3.8-3.fc16

Try running akmods manualy as root: # akmods Checking kmods exist for 3.2.9-2.fc16.x86_64 [ OK ] Since mine is already built it just says OK and exits but your's may have additional output that may help. image capture of error on boot

My output says [neohys@localhost ~]$ sudo akmods No akmod packages found, nothing to do. [ OK ] (because I have already uninstalled akmod-nvidia). There is actually one thing I'd like to mention. I have a weird message that is never saved in bootlog, but always shows since day one of my F16 installation (pls see image attached). At first I thought it was fatal, but it always boots normally after that, so I guess I could just shrug it off, until the akmod-nvidia has problem working. I'm not sure if it is related to this, or I should open a new bug with it. I still think you have some sort of weird BIOS issue since even nouveau seems to complain, although it apparently seems to work anyway. > At first I thought it was fatal, but it always boots normally after that, so I > guess I could just shrug it off, until the akmod-nvidia has problem working. > I'm not sure if it is related to this, or I should open a new bug with it. It wouldn't hurt, but of course that would go in the Fedora bugzilla. Created attachment 814 [details] all text files. from lsmod, rpm -qa, uname-r,xorg.conf Hi all, This is my time trying to use nvidia driver from rpmfusion. This is also my first time reporting a bug into rpmfusion. akmod fails to build and install on boot, so UI gnome-shell cannot work (the infamous scenario of just displaying boot messages but hangs there). My device is Acer laptop model 5750G with Nvidia GT540M. Attached text files are some relevant cat files (I think). I used the rawhide version of package akmod-nvidia only after version-290 doesn't work for me, so the same problem applies to Fedora 16 too.
