The frontend might be used without having the backend installed. So the mythtv user creation might be done in a package commonly shared with the frontend and the backend.

Reproduced with package from the buildsys-repo.

I am considering moving ownership of /var/lib/mythvideo to the backend package rather than the frontend. Do you see any issue with this?

I'm assuming in fronend only installs that mythfrontend will be running as an existing user since the mythtv user and group is really only for the backend.

I cannot double check. You may ask for advice upstream.
Now that's sound reasonable.

Fixed (hopefully) in mythtv-0.25-6.
