Description Karel Volný 2012-10-26 15:52:09 CEST
phonon-backend-vlc does not work for me at all (tested with dragon)

trying to play a file, I see empty window, but it pretends it plays something - the time counts and the position slider is moving

the console output is:

$ dragon ordinace-v-ruzove-zahrade-2-353-slibem-nezarmoutis.avi

Comment 1 Rex Dieter 2012-10-26 15:58:20 CEST
Can 'vlc' itself play this particular item?
Comment 2 Rex Dieter 2012-10-26 15:59:52 CEST
while we're at it,

rpm -q phonon phonon-backend-vlc dragon

please.

if possible, can you share a sample media file that doesn't play for you? so I can try to reproduce the problem... (email is fine)
Comment 3 Rex Dieter 2012-10-26 16:00:19 CEST
and,

rpm -q vlc-core

yes, sorry, I've forgotten to mention that

it reports some error:

> [0x7f7edc001268] main vout display error: Failed to set on top

but the video plays (with sound)

still the same file, I'll try to upload it somewhere overnight (ATM it is available from some filesharing site which seems to impose some geoloc limits :-/)

... but this problem seems to happen with any video; if it'd be just my machine, I'd think that I've broken it by fiddling with ffmpeg versions or so, but unfortunately I can see it also on my wife's machine which hasn't anything else than official Fedora & RPMFusion packages ... does vlc backend work for you?
Comment 6 Rex Dieter 2012-10-26 16:16:10 CEST
yes, it works for me.

there's a new 0.6.1 release coming real soon, that we can try testing out within the next day or 2.

next week or two? :-)

just FYI, my harddrive has failed, I've just did a fresh F17 install with a fresh user account (configuring things from scratch, not keeping the old config cruft), and it is still the same

I wonder what I'm doing wrong ...
Comment 8 Rex Dieter 2012-11-24 15:20:24 CET
the new build should finally be in rpmfusion-updates-testing repo, if you want to try it out.
Comment 9 Rex Dieter 2013-01-26 16:45:09 CET
If this is still a problem for you with latest updates, let me suggest taking the issue upstream to bugs.kde.org. The phonon maintainers are generally very responsive, and can help diagnose what's going wrong.

In doing so, including extra debugging information would help, see
http://techbase.kde.org/Development/Tutorials/Debugging/Phonon
Comment 10 Emmanuel Seyman 2013-07-31 22:44:07 CEST
RPMFusion is no longer releasing updates for this version of Fedora. This bug
will be set to RESOLVED:EXPIRED next week to reflect this.

If the problem persists after upgrading to the latest version of Fedora, please
update the version field of this bug (and re-open it if it has been closed).
Comment 11 Emmanuel Seyman 2013-08-09 02:52:00 CEST
Setting to RESOLVED:EXPIRED since RPMFusion is no longer releasing updates for
this version of Fedora.
