Description Vitaly 2017-10-28 19:04:04 CEST
KDE compositing crashing on latest NVIDIA drivers. Just run any fullscreen game or VirtualBox in fullscreen mode and KDE Plasma will crash.

Fedora 26 with KDE Plasma 5 DE, xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-384.90-1.fc26.

Switching from OpenGL compositing backend in KDE Settings to XRender temporary solve this problem.

Looking at the upstream bug

Jul 18 23:35:55 buck-pc kwin_x11[1044]: kwin_core: OpenGL 2 compositing setup failed
Jul 18 23:35:55 buck-pc kwin_x11[1044]: kwin_core: Failed to initialize compositing, compositing disabled

Why is it trying to use OpenGL2?, nvidia provides OpenGL3.
Have you tried setting compositing to opengl3?

Yes, ofc. But KDE is still trying to use OGL2 instead of OGL3.

Does the issue still occur ?

No. Problem fixed on latest proprietary driver version.
