Description JR 2022-05-27 01:58:30 CEST
The current version of vlc that can be installed from RPMFusion repository (vlc V3.0.17.2) does not play DVD menus. I also noticed this in prior versions, but only remember it has been happening for several recent months.

Older versions of VLC play DVD menus 100%-okay (pre-3.0.17)

All current and recent Windows builds play DVD menus 100%-okay.

My guess is the problem is a build issue, so whoever puts the vlc image into the RPMFusion repository, probably needs to spend a few minutes noodling around with how they build the application.

I have not been able to re-build vlc on my laptop, due to library and header file conflicts.

How to reproduce the bug:

1) From a virgin build of Rocky Linux 8.6
2) add epel, RPMFusion-Free, and RPMFusion-NonFree repositories.
3) dnf install vlc
4) dnf install libdvdcss libdvdnav libdvdread

I use DVD images, which are directories which contain a VIDEO_TS folder, and therein contains .IFO, .BUF, and .VOB files. Vlc considers the named folder immediately above the VIDEO_TS folder to be the movie's name.

You should be able to use a command line that looks like:

$ vlc NameOfMovieFolder

where NameOfMovieFolder is the full path name of the folder above the VIDEO_TS folder.

You can also use the GUI version of vlc to "open disc" and then open the appropriate folder.

Note: Usually you need DVD menus to select which language or closed-captioning language you want used, during movie playback.

Note: This bug does NOT appear to be a duplicate of bug 6230.

I think it will be fixed with vlc-3.0.18, but DVD on RHEL is hard to maintain (too old libdvd{read, nav} libraries...)

Fixed with 3.0.18 upstream.
